Heinrich Tessenow (1876–1950) is considered one of the most important German architects of the Weimar era. This monograph examines the significance his buildings, writings, and drawings still have today. Through meticulous research in the remaining archives and in the field, author Martin Boesch sketches a new image of Tessenow, mostly known for designing working-class housing. Boesch shows that Tessenow mastered both large- and small-scale works, and was capable of comprehensive urban planning. The book focuses in particular on Tessenow’s iconic buildings, such as the renovation of the Neue Wache in Berlin, the girls’ school in Kassel, and more.
